Eighteen new deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Quebec

Quebec reports Thursday 18 new deaths attributed to COVID-19, as well as an increase in hospitalizations.

There are currently 1,860 hospitalizations, an increase of 93 from Wednesday. Forty-five people are in intensive care, including 21 due to COVID-19, an increase of two.

A total of 7,236 healthcare workers are absent for reasons related to COVID-19, such as preventive withdrawal or isolation.

The Ministry of Health reports 2,457 new cases of COVID-19. However, the number of cases listed is not representative of the situation since access to screening centers is restricted to priority groups.

Since the start of the pandemic, 1,119,322 infections have been reported, and 15,726 of them have been fatal.

The ministry also indicates that since July 11, a new database has been used for confirmed cases of COVID-19, which has an effect on the number of cumulative cases. The number of COVID-19 reinfections is now counted and the number of cases by epidemiological links is excluded.

A total of 250,427 rapid tests have been self-reported so far on the government platform, including 208,300 positives. For Wednesday, 720 tests were reported, including 651 positive.

The Ministry of Health indicates that 15,070 analyzes were carried out on Wednesday and that the positivity rate is 17%.

Among those 5 years and older, 91% received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 55% received a second dose and 16% obtained a third dose. Among those aged 60 and over, 47% went for a fourth dose.
