David Douillet
, famous for his prowess in the world of judo, is also a winter sports enthusiast. In an exclusive interview with France Sunday this Friday, April 12, 2024, the former athlete turned politician spoke at length about his admiration for the snow-capped peaks.
“It was in Les Menuires, I was already a very young athlete. I was 17 at the time, and we came there for cross-country skiing courses. But it was especially years later that I really discovered the mountains, and even the high mountains. I was fed up with training by running or cycling, I wanted a change.” he confided to our colleagues before adding: “A friend then insisted that I try seal skin. I thought it was crazy, because I barely knew how to ski. But I went for it anyway, and it was a real revelation !”

“Gusts of more than 110 km/h”
Unfortunately, this practice can be particularly dangerous. Especially if the weather conditions are not ideal. “Little by little, I gained the respect of the mountain people and above all I learned to ski in the middle of a storm! I remember one climb where we stayed eight hours in the blizzard, with continuous gusts over 110 km/h… Something that will drive you crazy!”
And to continue: “There, I can tell you thatyou need a hell of a carafe to hold out. But when you come out, and then find yourself on a judo mat, it’s good, it’s hot! Nothing can happen to you anymore.” One thing is certain, it is that David Douillet has never been afraid. It is for this reason that the athlete stood out among the greatest!
