Since September 29, 2021, medically assisted procreation (PMA) is now possible for all women, within the framework of the law on bioethics. Eight months after its launch, according to figures published by the monitoring committee, the system is experiencing growing success, beyond forecasts.

Thus, for the 1st quarter of 2022, there were 5126 requests in total. And one of the major surprises: single women are more likely than female couples to request medically assisted procreation. They represent 53% of requests against 47% for female couples.

As also authorized by law, the storage of its gametes without medical reason attracts more and more women. The requests for freezing of oocytes from women who do not have a medical problem are exploding: they have almost doubled compared to the last quarter of last year, i.e. more than 2,500 files filed. The other side of the coin: waiting times are getting longer. You have to wait more than a year before being taken care of in a center.

Another good surprise in this report on the first three months of the year: sperm donations are up compared to last year. The access to the origins which will soon be open to children resulting from donations at their majority obviously did not frighten the volunteers.
