Eight men arrested in France in an investigation linked to the financing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party

Eight men were arrested on Tuesday April 23 in Seine-Saint-Denis, Seine-et-Marne and Bouches-du-Rhône as part of a judicial investigation linked to the financing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). ), announced the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat). The organization is classified as a “terrorist” group by Turkey and its Western allies

The investigation targets acts committed between 2020 and 2024 and is open for “participation in a criminal association with a view to preparing an act of terrorism, financing of a terrorist enterprise, extortion and attempted extortion by a gang organized in relationship with a terrorist company. The arrests were carried out by the Anti-Terrorist Sub-Directorate and the Central Office for the Suppression of Serious Financial Crime.

Searches in Belgium

Searches also took place on Monday in this case in Belgium, in the Denderleeuw region, in the television studios of Sterk TV and Medya News, two Kurdish television channels broadcasting from Belgium, these two media announced in a press release sent to AFP.

These searches aimed “at the request of the third country, to establish possible evidence of terrorist financing”, according to the Belgian federal prosecutor’s office. The Pnat confirmed that the investigations carried out in Belgium took place “as part of a request for European assistance issued by a French anti-terrorism judge”.
