A gas leak caused an explosion Monday morning in a residential area under construction in Orléans, a suburb of Ottawa.
The Ottawa Paramedic Service said eight people were being treated by paramedics, including one who was transported to the trauma unit at the Ottawa Hospital. However, there is no fear for the lives of the injured.
Ottawa Fire Services were responding to the scene, and the gas leak is still ongoing.
The explosion would have blown several houses under construction, according to firefighters.
They say they used chainsaws to rescue a person from under the rubble who was “stable and talking”.
Ottawa police were also on the scene. Several streets are closed, and buses have been deployed to help affected people.
