The toll of French victims is growing. The earthquakes which hit Turkey and Syria on February 6 killed at least eight French nationals, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday March 1. “We have had this toll of eight victims for more than a week now”revealed the deputy director of the Ministry’s Crisis and Support Center, Fanny Demassieux, during a hearing at the National Assembly.

The previous assessment communicated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported four deceased French people. The French community in Turkey has 6,420 residents. Among them, 358 were in the disaster areas, as well as“fifty” of French “passing”, according to Fanny Demassieux. In total, the earthquakes claimed more than 50,000 lives in Turkey and Syria.
