Eight cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 have been detected in France, Public Health France reported in its weekly update on Thursday, December 2. So far, four cases had been confirmed in the territory. The first in Reunion, with a traveler returning from Mauritius, after a trip to Mozambique. Two other cases had been detected in Seine-et-Marne and in Haut-Rhin, in people returning from South Africa. The last concerned a resident of Seine-et-Marne, unvaccinated and who had traveled to Nigeria.

“To date, the majority of sequenced cases have come from South Africa”, specifies Public Health France. The seven confirmed cases in metropolitan France are spread over five different regions. “These cases and their contacts are being followed closely by the local health authorities”, specifies the agency. The Delta variant remains overwhelming in France and represents “99.8% of viruses sequenced on interpretable samples from the last Flash survey (from November 8 to 10)”.
