Spring is here ! Bourges, from April 19 to 23, puts on its festive clothes for the 46th edition of its festival. As every year, renowned artists – such as Dutronc father and son, Vianney or Clara Luciani – will occupy one of the ten stages of the city alongside emerging artists. We have selected a few nuggets for you to watch.
Merryn Jean
Accompanied by a piano, a clarinet or a cello, the slender voice of Merryn Jeann is an invitation to daydream. His words are almost whispered and draw from American folk culture. Her style is reminiscent of that of Billie Eillish or Agnes Obel. The Australian, who recently moved to France, is one of the winners of the festival’s iNOUÏS 2020 selection, which unearths the new talents of the year.
Love Simone
Back in Paris after several years in Berlin, Aime Simone is a post-pop artist, a genre that (paradoxically) refuses any label as he explained to us during his visit to the “Sur la Vague” festival in Rock en Seine. . In 2020he was going out Say Yes, Say No. A first album, between shadows and lights, to tell in songs his wounds and his joys. Mixture of pop, trap, indie rock or even techno. His influences: Lil Peep, Kanye West or even Pete Doherty, who was also his mentor.
November Ultra
His song Open Arms conquered 10 million people on TikTok. A soft and timeless voice, close to those of French singers of the 1950s, such as Barbara and Lucienne Boyer. On social networks, his guitar or his piano are enough for the magic to work and charm Internet users. November Ultra released their debut album in early April, titled Bedroom Walls which she will perform on one of the stages of the Printemps de Bourges.
Love Arrow
Swiss-Algerian, Flèche Love is a kind of Hispano-Berber siren that is hard to resist. Artist with multiple hats, Amina Cadelli compose, sing and rap. Member of the group Kadebostany for several years, she left the collective in 2015 and launched her solo career. An intoxicating cocktail of electro-pop, hip-hop, trip-hop, Flèche Love’s style will hit you right in the heart.
French 79
Originally from Marseille, French 79 is a French electro-pop artist, close to the universe of the inimitable Daft Punk. Simon Henner, his real name, is not new to the musical world. His first album was released in 2016 and a second followed in 2019. On Youtube, his track Hometown made its mark, accumulating more than 22 million plays.
Lazuli
It only takes a few seconds of listening to be teleported to Brazil. Lazuli, an artist who oscillates between pop, rap, reggaeton or even baile funk, has the ability to make our bodies move instinctively. Influenced by Brazilian sounds, she raps in Spanish and French. His voice, somewhat nonchalant, lands on lively percussion.
Susanoo
After producing the rappers RK, La Fouine, YL or even Ninho, Susanoô decided to hang up his producer cap to rap in turn. Sensitive, the 24-year-old singer and rapper writes down his childhood in Cameroon through his adolescence in a working-class neighborhood in Le Mans. But Susanoô also knows how to entertain the crowds, its title Joy of living prove.
Lewis OfMan
In another style, Lewis OfMan is one of the newcomers to this new edition of Printemps de Bourges. This young artist flirts with an electric groove and draws his inspiration from Italian pop. Despite his age (he’s only 23!), he has already composed for several French pop artists, including Friday Sur Mer, also present at the festival this year. Lewis OfMan released his first album Sonic Poems a few weeks ago.
