The lack of hospital staff also affects nursing homes. This leads to the displacement of residents in order to be able to continue to take care of them.
This is a growing problem affecting retirement homes. The lack of staff has serious consequences since some nursing homes are forced to transfer seniors from one establishment to another. In Amiens (Sum)two out of five services will no longer be in service, on July 1, at the Saint-Victor nursing home. “We have identified around twenty places which will allow some of the residents to be taken over by another university hospital”explains Gerard stark, the director of the University Hospital of Amiens.
The displacement of residents is a major concern for senior families. The fear of a loss of habit and of finding unknown people is felt. One of the members of a family testifies: “We have the impression that it is done in an emergency, that nothing is prepared and in terms of communication, we are completely left behind.” For the unions, this situation could become usual, and even amplify. “We have been dealing with absenteeism for months and years, which was not sufficiently replaced”deplores a member of the CGT.
