The French are consuming more and more eggs. Their consumption increased by 4% in one year. Despite inflation of 29% in two years, eggs remain the cheapest animal protein. A box of 6 free-range eggs costs 2.08 euros, compared to 1.79 euros for battery rearing. These price differences can be explained by the method of egg production. “The hen that is outdoors will consume more food than a hen that is on the ground and even more than a hen that is in a cage.indicates Loïc Coulombel, vice-president of the National Committee for the Promotion of Eggs.

Prices expected to fall in 2024

A poultry producer sells his eggs for 30 cents each. “A dozen eggs don’t cost much. You can have several meals based on fish or meat“, assures Alain Causse, producer of poultry and eggs. This product should be even more competitive in 2024, with the drop in the price of energy and chicken feed.
