“Egbé Okpá”, Matthew Eguavoen’s first personal exhibition in France, questions the couple and parenthood

Through a gallery of autobiographical portraits, the Nigerian painter as a young father reveals intimate portraits of the couple and the family.

Until May 3, 2022, the Afikaris gallery in Paris presents “Egbé Okpá”, an exhibition of the latest works by Nigerian artist Matthew Eguavoen.

“Egbé Okpá”, which means “a family” in the Edo language – a language spoken in particular in the Edo region, in the south-west of Nigeria where the artist is from –, questions parenthood and the impact of this upheaval on the couple.
