Just back from Ukraine, journalists from France Télévisions Maryse Burgot and Stéphane Guillemot met second-grade students in Seine-Saint-Denis. From Monday, March 21, press week opens in schools.
France Télévisions journalists Stéphane Guillemot and Maryse Burgotwho had just returned from Ukraine, met pupils from a second class, in Seine-Saint-Denis, to discuss media coverage of the war. “What is the mission of a war reporter?“asks a student. “For example, in Ukraine, it’s looking at what’s happening to the civilian population, looking at what’s happening to the military, to those who are fighting, and to render these facts as faithfully as possible through a subject”replies Maryse Burgot.
“The limit is that we can’t go everywhere and therefore, depending on what we can do by taking acceptable risks, we do the reports we can”adds Stéphane Guillemot. The two journalists answer students’ questions about the fear of death and the work of a war reporter without filter. “I’m not going to die to make pictures”says a student, visibly unattracted to the profession.
