Children and parents in the street to defend their school. A CM1 class is threatened in the town of Chalut near Limoges. The reason ? Five fewer students next year. “Concretely, this means that we will have more multi-level classes, for the moment we already have large sections brought together with CP and CE1“, explains a parent of a student.
Multiplication of closures
Elected officials fear poorer teaching conditions. Concern is visible in several rural communities, closures are increasing. This is the case in Vernet (Haute-Garonne) or even in Villiers-sur-Loir in Loir-et-Cher. Teachers’ unions demonstrated on Thursday February 1 against class closures in the department. For its part, the government argues that there will be 83,000 fewer students at the start of the 2024-2025 school year. The future primary school map must be revealed in February.
