Last September against Audrey Crespo-Mara in seven to eightEdouard Philippe had broached the subject of his beard, when he evoked the physical changes he had experienced since his accession to the post of Prime Minister: “My beard has whitened perhaps as a result of stress and no doubt its impact on my metabolism. (…) I can confirm to you that I am suffering from a disease called vitiligo which is neither painful nor contagious but is very visible. I have a beard that has a funny color, that’s how it is. It’s not a subject I assume it and I don’t need to apologize.” If he agrees to talk about it briefly, without hiding his annoyance, Edouard Philippe had confided in the book The Truth about Edouard Philippe by Tugdual Denis: “At the same time, I don’t care about my vitiligo, and at the same time, I don’t teach it to you, who are concerned, it remains a pathology.” A beard that makes ink flow but that he did not always have in his political career. In his early days, in archive images from France 3, we can discover the politician beardless, a very different look.
A sudden departure
During his time on France 5, Edouard Philippe also returned to his departure from Matignon, giving way to Jean Castex in 2020, described as “brutal” in his book co-written with Gilles Boyer, Clear prints and lines : “President Emmanuel Macron informed me of his decision to change Prime Minister on Thursday evening. The decision was made public on Friday morning and on Friday at 5 p.m. it was over. It’s quick ! And I’m not complaining. (…) I did not have time to say goodbye to the team with whom I had worked for three years.”
