EDF will soon shut down three additional nuclear reactors in order to carry out “controls” due to suspected corrosion issues. On Monday, EDF had lowered its nuclear production forecast for 2022, already citing these corrosion problems affecting the safety system of certain reactors. “We continued the investigations on the reactors” and “this leads us to anticipate certain shutdowns and pursue others”told AFP a spokesperson for EDF, without specifying the location and duration of these stops.
According to a brief statement from the group, “EDF adjusts its 2022 nuclear production estimate to 295-315 TWh, against 300-330 TWh”, “as part of its control program on the nuclear fleet”. The energy company initially aimed for a production of 330 to 360 TWh in 2022.
