EDF plans to buy turbines from General Electric

It is a project that marks the return to the French flag. The nuclear activities that Alstom had sold to the American group General Electric will be bought by EDF. A takeover of the turbines which comes at the right time when the French president wants to relaunch nuclear power.

They are the most powerful and reliable on the market according to experts. Steam turbines should return to the French flag. It is the company EDF which is preparing to buy back part of the activities of General Electric. 2,500 employees are affected by this takeover project. In Belfort (Territoire-de-Belfort), an employee declares: “I am very satisfied that we can return to the French panel”.

It’s a return to French ownership that comes years after its controversial sale to the Americans. Indeed, in 2014, Alstom sold its business to General Electric. A decision which was supported by Emmanuel Macron, Minister of the Economy at the time of the facts. For the unions, these turbines should never have been sold, which have once again become crucial for French nuclear.
