Businesses and communities called for sobriety by the government in the midst of the energy price crisis. Among the subjects that are debated, there is that of public lighting. In Lorraine, 400 municipalities have dimmed the lights or cut off all or part of the lighting at night. Eclatec, 185 employees in Maxéville, has been producing public lighting since 1927 and the transition to sobriety is not new.
Eclatec boss David Lelièvre dates the turn taken by his company back to 2013: “It’s been almost ten years. In 2013, the level of maturity of LED technology made it possible to offer high-performance solutions in public lighting with very marked reductions in consumption“. 70 to 80% reduction in consumption at this time for the same quality of lighting. Today, we even reach 90% thanks to remote control or presence detectors. Local authorities have converted to it but there is still work to be done, explains the boss of Eclatec: “the job is far from done, the public lighting fleet in France is around 11 million light points, there are around 30% that have only been transformed“.
Vacancies in Maxéville
Local authority investments have been significant but have not always been encouraged by particularly low electricity prices compared to our European neighbours. Another explanation for this “delay”, it is not so easy to switch to LED lighting, technically explains David Lelièvre: “it’s 100% electronic and it’s more sensitive to the hazards that we can have on the electrical network so if a community wants to replace its lights but upstream its network is very dilapidated, this can generate breakdowns“. In this case, the investment is heavier.
Eclatec achieves good performance year after year and seeks to recruit in particular for positions in the assembly of lighting fixtures.
