The trial into the 2015 Eckwersheim train disaster opens on Monday March 4. There were eleven deaths in the accident of a test TGV traveling towards Strasbourg.

A TGV derailing: the image is spectacular. The accident hasgoes left 11 dead and 42 injured. Among them, a young 26-year-old engineer. His parents agreed to tell the story of the drama experienced by their son on the train. “He woke up with seats on his head and he was screaming ‘Fanny, Fanny, Fanny’”, says the mother. Fanny-Marie was his fiancée who had invited him on board. She didn’t survive. That day, the young engineer’s parents questioned him, they did not feel confident. 53 passengers, SNCF employees and their relatives are invited on board for a test journey. The test train is a few kilometers from the finish, when the train misses its turn, derails and crashes into the river.

Excessive speed and late braking

The first investigations will determine that the causes of the incident are linked to excessive speed and braking too late. The SNCF, its two subsidiaries and 3 of the drivers are on the dock.
