After the burglary of their warehouse, the volunteers of Secours populaire d’Échirolles (Isère) noticed the trampling and disappearance of the fruit of several months’ labor. A situation which pushed the town hall to react, by in turn collecting funds for the 30,000 beneficiaries of the department.

A pile of ripped cardboard boxes. Their contents, stolen or trampled. This is all that remains of the stocks of the Rescue popular of Échirolles (Isère). Products which were to be distributed next week to families in need. “Quite an action that we have collected for a little over eight months”, laments a volunteer. Amount of damage, more than 300,000 euros. The burglars forced open the metal shutter of the warehouse. Inside, they also attacked the association’s vehicles. The two vans that had just been purchased were completely stripped down. “Even the bodywork was torn,” he notes, disillusioned by the situation.

30,000 people helped in the department

The association helped more than 30,000 people in the department. It will take several months to replenish stocks. “What saddens me is that perhaps the families of these malicious people are helped by the Rescue popularand we are in a kind of delirium and dehumanization of human behavior which really calls out”, observed Sylvette Rochas, deputy mayor of Échirolles (PCF) in charge of Solidarity. A call for witnesses was launched to try to identify the criminals. For its part, the town hall of Échirolles is launching a money collection to help the association.
