Due to high inflation, the key rates of the European Central Bank (ECB) will be raised next July.
The key rates of the European Central Bank (ECB) will increase. “This hadn’t happened since May 2011”explains journalist Olivier Poncelet, Thursday, June 9. “What has changed is inflation. The Central Bank predicts that it will be much stronger than expected in the euro zone”, he continues. Inflation is 6.8% in 2022 and will remain high until 2024. “The primary mission of the ECB is to fight against this inflation and to contain it below 2%”says the journalist.
“To carry out this mission, the Board of Governors of the Central Bank met in Amsterdam (Netherlands) and decided that the borrowing rates would be revised upwards”, adds Olivier Poncelet. From next July, with 25 more points, and more if necessary in September. “So that’s the end of easy money. It will cost more to go into debt”warns the journalist.
