Emergency services were called around 2:30 p.m. for a swerve.
The young woman was traveling north when she allegedly lost control of her vehicle in the entrance to a rest area, before leaving the road, according to initial information from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The driver would then have hit cement blocks and ended her journey in the central reservation. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
“As the victim would have been ejected, the fact that the seat belt would have been badly worn or not is part of the hypotheses under study,” said the spokesperson for the SQ, Sergeant Catherine Bernard.
A collision investigator was deployed to the scene to establish the causes and circumstances of the accident. Northbound Highway 55 has been closed to traffic which is diverted to Route 143 via Exit 5.
