Les Cityzens venaient quant à eux de perdre leur as marqueur Valentín Taty Castellanos, parti en prêt en Espagne. Mais certains joueurs ont depuis fait sortir cette équipe de son moment de flottement.
Maxi Moralez, 35 ans, en est le maestro au milieu. Son entraîneur-chef par intérim Nick Cushing a encensé sa performance de lundi soir, après le match.
« À mon avis, c’était une classe de maître, a dit Cushing. Son professionnalisme, son leadership, son talent, l’effet qu’il a sur l’équipe. C’est un gars vraiment spécial. »
C’est Moralez qui a marqué le superbe but new-yorkais à la 69e minute. Il a aussi fourni huit centres et six passes clés. Selon les données de Sofascore, l’Argentin a eu 106 touches de balle, bien au-delà de son plus proche poursuivant à ce chapitre (Santiago Rodríguez avec 65). Inutile de dire qu’il sera à surveiller dimanche.
