The former Texas State University Bobcats color holder wowed the gallery on Sunday and Monday as part of the second ECPT tournament of the season. He not only impressed with his consistency, but it was above all his tee shots that made the difference.

“Rarely have I seen a player hit the ball that far. It’s really impressive,” said circuit founder Massimo Roch.

Regularly over 330 aerial yards, the golfer from Fredericton, New Brunswick, was sparkling with a first-round 63.

Calvin Ross was virtually flawless in the second round, turning in a -6 card, for a -15 total to take the title.

“It went really well with my driver. It’s a relatively short course so when you hit your tee shot well, it makes it easier to get to the green,” explained the winner.

He made nine birdies and never bogeyed. He had set the table for the second day and he already had his eyes on the trophy.

Except that behind him, Caroline Ciot had not said her last word. With a game where she made eight birdies, Ciot returned a card of 65, two shots behind the leader.

Round two was Ross’s business. He will have been able to take advantage of the superb conditions to let the full extent of his talent speak for itself. The New Brunswicker was practically flawless, returning a -6 card, for a -15 total and thus seizing the title.

“I think I’m getting dangerous as the next tournaments approach and I don’t think my name will necessarily be more unknown to other golfers,” Ross said.

For her part, Ciot maintained her second position and played a final round of 68. She would have liked to capitalize on her good day the day before, but she gave a card equal to par on the nine to go, which reduced her chances from the start. The fact remains that the performance of the professional from Domaine Château Bromont is historic, since she becomes the woman with the best result in the history of the circuit.

” I am really happy. Yesterday was good and today was a little more difficult, so I was looking forward to the end of the round. I think I did well, overall, and I’m happy with the result,” explained the golfer.

nerves of steel

It is known that great champions have the ability to keep a cool head in the most important and critical moments. This is also what may explain Ross’ victory.

The Canadian has seen all the colors when he evolved in the American university ranks and this experience will have been beneficial to him on Monday. Despite spectacular comebacks from some of his pursuers, such as Brandon Lacasse, who jumped 17 places thanks to a 63 card in the last round, Ross maintained his lead.

As for her, Ciot concluded the tournament at -11 and she also stood out for her composure.

“I worked for a long time on not letting myself be affected by a good or a bad move. To stay in the present moment. I know what I have to do every time and it has really become one of my strengths,” added the athlete from Brossard.

His work was even hailed by the winner: “It’s fantastic! She was very impressive on the course today. There is no women’s circuit for women of her caliber in Canada, so it’s great that she can participate in this kind of tournament and play well. She is really a good player. »
