Four French nationals are among the victims of the earthquake which struck Turkey and Syria, announced the Quai d’Orsay. Others have survived, like Augustin, a 24-year-old student who has only just found his family in Le Mans.

After four days in Turkey amid the rubble, Augustin Debsi found his family at Le Mans (Sarthe). Monday, February 6, the young man was in his student room when the earth began to shake. “I was on bed, and I immediately rushed to the door“, he says. The student then went out into the yard with his roommates, all in a panic.

A disfigured city

He has Understood escaped the worst. I was invaded by dust, everywhere, all over my body and also on my tongue, in my throat, in my lungs because I screamed in fear“, he recalls. In the street, he discovered his city, Antakya (Turkey)disfigured. Some of his relatives, including his aunt and cousins, died in the disaster. Augustine Debsi returned to France Friday February 10, and still remains deeply shocked.
