Earthquake felt near Montreal

An earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale was felt near Montreal on Sunday evening around 8 p.m.

According to Earthquake Canada, the epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 10 km, between Varennes and Repentigny, off the eastern tip of the island of Montreal.

It would also have been “slightly felt” in the neighboring towns of Longueil and Mascouche.

“There are no reports of damage, and none would be expected,” the federal agency said.

Several citizens still testified online to the surprise created by the earthquake.

“We felt it and heard a “bang” in Boucherville,” said Josée Galibois.

Remember that the Montreal region is at moderate risk of earthquakes.
