(Kansas City) Jalen Hurts scored two rushing touchdowns, including a decisive one in the fourth quarter, and the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday in a replay of the last Super Bowl.
The Eagles (9-1) were down by 10 points at halftime, but completed the comeback by not allowing any points to the Chiefs (7-3) in the second half.
Jason Kelce of the Eagles got the better of his little brother Travis for the first time. The Chiefs tight end fumbled the ball inside the Eagles 20-yard line in the fourth quarter.
The Chiefs got a chance with less than two minutes to play, but a great pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes fell into the hands of receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who was unable to catch the ball for which would have been a 51-yard touchdown. The Eagles then stopped the Chiefs on fourth down.
Hurts only threw for 150 yards, and was intercepted once. However, he made the plays that Mahomes was unable to make during the second half. Hurts was helped by D’Andre Swift, who ran for a total of 76 yards, in addition to scoring a touchdown. DeVonta Smith, who caught six balls, had 99 yards of gains.
This was only the ninth time that two Super Bowl teams played each other the following regular season. The champion team had won the last four times. The last loss was the Dallas Cowboys against the Buffalo Bills, during the 1993 season.
Mahomes was held to 177 passing yards, with two touchdown passes and an interception in the end zone. Isiah Pacheco ran for 89 yards.
