Since January 2022, France has experienced a sudden outbreak of food poisoning due to the bacteria E. vsolive. Health authorities have confirmed a link to frozen pizzas Fresh’up of the brand Buitoni. 75 children fell ill and two died.
For Vanessa, her son is a miracle. Last February, a few days after having eaten a piece of pizza, her 12-year-old son is experiencing alarming symptoms. “I had trouble breathing at night, I was hot (…) I started having vomiting, it was twice a day, after that it got worse by seven vomiting a day”describes the young child. He was hospitalized in emergency and will spend three days in intensive care. The child is a victim of the bacterium E. vsolive and suffers from severe kidney failure.
His mother Vanessa says: “We explain to you that it can go as far as dialysis, it can be really serious and go as far as organ donation”. Health investigations are continuing, as for 33 other children, in order to demonstrate the link with frozen pizzas Buitoni. This link has already been proven in 41 cases. The flour in the pizzas could have been soiled before being used. The investigation proves complicated, because even if the pizza is cooked at 230 degrees, the bacteria E. vsolive is very resistant. The immune defenses of children then fight less effectively against the bacteria.
