The amount of the contract was not disclosed.

The 25-year-old British Columbian has three goals and three assists in 42 games with the Coyotes this season.

A fifth-round pick at the 2014 auction, Mayo became the eighth defenseman in club history to score in his very first NHL game. He had achieved the feat against the Edmonton Oilers on October 21.

Mayo has been a big part of the Coyotes this season, especially on the penalty kill. He leads the team in blocked tris (83) and checks among defensemen (63).

He played 258 games in the American Hockey League before getting his shot on the Bettman circuit this season.
