Dylan Gambrell moves from Sharks to Senators

(Ottawa) The Ottawa Senators have added some depth to the center position due to recent injuries.

The Senators have acquired 25-year-old center Dylan Gambrell from the San Jose Sharks in return for a seventh-round draft pick in the 2022 draft.

The Ottawa troop announced the transaction on Sunday evening.

The seventh pick was first assigned to the Sharks, but it was sent to the Senators in a trade involving defenseman Christian Jaros in January.

Gambrell was selected in the second round by the Sharks, at the 60e ranked in the 2016 Draft. He has 10 goals and 13 assists in 110 career NHL games.

Gambrell also had 23 goals and 35 assists in 69 games for the San Jose Barracuda in the American Hockey League. He has amassed an assist in three games for the Barracuda this season.

Gambrell will be recalled by the Senators as part of this transaction. He should help the Ottawa team, which recently lost the services of the Colin White (dislocated shoulder), Shane Pinto (upper body) and Clark Bishop (lower body) centers.

“We have watched Dylan’s progress from the varsity ranks,” said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. It’s a center that skates well, applies a good forward check and is responsible on the shorthand. ”
