(Orchard Park) Laurent Duvernay-Tardif got his first NFL start in over 21 months, in a 24-17 loss to the New York Jets to the Miami Dolphins.
The McGill University medical graduate hadn’t been a starter since February 2, 2020, when the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV. He had skipped the next season to avoid being a vector of COVID transmission, taking the opportunity to help out in a CHSLD, then lost his starting position with the Chiefs this season.
“Physically I felt good,” said LDT after the game. We communicated well on the line of scrimmage. As for the game, I made a few mistakes, but I was happy to be back. It hurts, we wanted to win, but we’re going to work hard to build something.
“In the end, we have to score points. “
The guard took the place of Greg Van Roten in the starting lineup. The Jets secured the Quebecer in return for tight end Dan Brown on the NFL trade deadline.
At the time of the transaction, LDT was also delighted to have the chance to regain its place on the grounds of the NFL. The opportunity presented itself sooner rather than later.
“The more the season progressed, the more I wanted to be part of an organization that wanted me,” he said at the time of the transaction. And the Jets really wanted to get me since we had been talking for three weeks. It made sense to terminate the no-trade clause so that you could be part of a team that is building something new and different. I wanted to be part of it.
“It’s a good thing for all sides. I’m in a better position to have a chance to play, which is my ultimate goal, and the Jets will have good guard, I’m sure. ”
Game-wise, Tua Tagovailoa threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Myles Gaskin early in the fourth quarter and the Miami Dolphins held on to defeat the Jets 24-17.
A week after signing an impressive win over the Baltimore Ravens, the Dolphins (4-7) overcame a few penalties to experience their first three-game winning streak since last season.
With the game tied 14-14, Tagovailoa withstood the pressure to join Gaskin in the end zone with 10:15 to go.
A penalty hurt the Jets (2-8) on the Dolphins’ next possession. Tagovailoa was sacked on the third down, but Jason Pinnock was penalized for holding. Jason Sanders was able to pull a field goal for 24 yards with 1: 57 to go.
Matt Ammendola, who missed two field goals for the Dolphins, closed the gap in the dying seconds with a 35-yard precision punt.
Colts 41 – Bills 15
Jonathan Taylor set a team record with five touchdowns and the Indianapolis Colts crushed the Buffalo Bills 41-15 on Sunday afternoon.
Taylor had three touchdowns in the first half, en route to becoming the first NFL player to record five majors in a single game since Alvin Kamara’s six touchdowns against the Minnesota Vikings on Dec. 25, 2020.
Taylor ended his game with 185 rushing yards and edged Derrick Henry for first in rushing yards (1,122). Taylor also shows a total of 14 touchdowns, which put him ahead of James Conner at the top.
Taylor had at least 100 yards from the line of scrimmage and a touchdown for an eighth game in a row, which tied the NFL best streak set by former Colts Lydell Mitchell (1975 and 1976) and LaDainian Tomlinson (2006).
The Bills (6-4) left the top rung of the American Association’s Eastern section to the Patriots (7-4). The two teams will cross swords twice over the next five weeks.
The Colts (6-5) continued their momentum as they are 5-1 in their last six outings. The Indianapolis squad had lost all five of their matches this season against a team that made the playoffs last year.
49ers 30 – Jaguars 10
Jimmy Garoppolo threw two touchdown passes for a third straight week and the 49ers of San Francisco topped the Jaguars 30-10.
Coming back from a convincing 31-10 win over the Los Angeles Rams, the 49ers (5-5) scored points in their first five possessions.
The San Francisco squad made 33 of the first 37 offensive plays of the game and they had more first downs (14) than the Jaguars had in yards (12) midway through the second quarter.
Garoppolo completed 16 of his 22 passes for gains of 176 yards. He joined Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle for a major. Deebo Smauel ran the ball eight times for gains of 79 yards and a touchdown.
The 49ers have won three of their last four games. The Jaguars conceded a 14e defeat immediately against opponents of the National Association.
Texans 22 – Titans 13
Tyrod Taylor had two rushing touchdowns and the Houston Texans ended the NFL’s longest active losing streak by beating the Tennessee Titans 22-13.
The Texans (2-8) had lost their last eight games since winning the opener. They had not registered a major abroad since September 19.
Desmond King had two of the Texans’ four interceptions, who scored 13 points following a turnaround. The Houston team also had two quarterback sacks.
The Titans (8-3) had won their last six outings and lost for the first time since October 3.
The Tennessee team outscored the Texans 420-190 in total yards, but couldn’t overcome many mistakes.
Lions 10 – Browns 13
Nick Chubb caught a touchdown pass and rushed for 130 rushing yards, guiding the Cleveland Browns to a 13-10 victory over the Detroit Lions.
Chubb returned to the game after a one-game absence due to COVID-19. He grabbed a five-yard touchdown pass from Baker Mayfield and helped the Browns (6-5) go through the final seconds on the clock.
As fans shouted his name before each play, Chubb gained 36 yards in the Browns’ final offensive streak, which went by the last two minutes and 29 seconds.
Receiver Jarvis Landry scored a touchdown and the Browns were able to at least celebrate a victory after being outscored by 38 points last week against the New England Patriots.
The Lions (0-9-1) were unable to build pace after delivering a 16-16 draw to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Detroit troops haven’t won in their last 14 games.
Saints 40 – Eagles 29
Jalen Hurts had three rushing touchdowns, Darius Slay returned an interception for a major and the Philadelphia Eagles beat the New Orleans Saints 40-29.
The Eagles (5-6) have won their last two outings for the first time this season. Rookie head coach Nick Sirianni had his first home win in five attempts.
The Saints (5-5) suffered a third loss in a row since losing the services of quarterback Jameis Winston in a 36-27 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Trevor Siemian threw three touchdown passes and two interceptions and registered a rushing touchdown. Star running back Alvin Kamara was not on the roster.
Facing the best defense in the NFL, the Eagles amassed 242 rushing yards. Miles Sanders had 94, Hurts had 69 and Jordan Howard added 63.
Washington 27 – Panthers 21
Taylor Heinicke threw three touchdown passes and for 206 yards and the Washington Soccer Team beat the Carolina Panthers 27-21.
Heinicke excelled against the NFL’s best defense against aerial play, and Washington’s roster spoiled Cam Newton’s return to Bank of America Stadium.
Terry McLaurin caught five balls for 103 yards and a touchdown against the Panthers (5-6), who allowed just 173.3 passing yards per game.
Newton, who was making his first start since he recently struck up with the Panthers, threw two touchdowns and for 19 yards and added a 24-yard touchdown.
Newton’s last two offensive possessions, however, had to end with a turnaround on testing, confirming Washington’s victory (4-6).
Ravens 16 – Bears 13
Replacing star quarterback Lamar Jackson, Tyler Huntley orchestrated a winning streak and the Baltimore Ravens defeated the Chicago Bears 16-13.
Jackson was missing Sunday’s game due to an illness unrelated to COVID-19. Meanwhile, Devonta Freeman hit a touchdown following a three-yard run, with 22 seconds left, to give the Ravens the victory (7-3).
Justin Tucker landed three hits for the Baltimore squad, who recovered from a loss to the Miami Dolphins. Huntley completed 26 of his 36 passes for gains of 219 yards in his first career start.
Andy Dalton threw two touchdown passes for the Bears, including a 49-yard one to Marquise Goodwin in the dying minutes of the fourth quarter. Rookie Justin Fields left the game in the third quarter.
The Bears (3-7) lost for the fifth time in a row.
Vikings 34 – Packers 31
Greg Joseph put in a 29-yard field goal as the final seconds slipped and the Minnesota Vikings triumphed 34-31 over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
Quarterback Kirk Cousins threw three touchdown passes and for aerial gains of 341 yards. The Vikings (5-5) once again saw one of their games end on the last play, after Aaron Rodgers threw a long touchdown pass to tie the game.
Rodgers threw three of his four touchdown passes in the second half for the Packers (8-3). He completed 23 of his 33 passes for gains of 385 yards, a record for him this season.
Justin Jefferson caught eight Cousins passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns. His 23-yard major in the late fourth quarter put the Vikings back on track and Dalvin Cook pulled the two-point convert to 31-24.
In the next offensive play, Rodgers threw a magnificent pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who distanced himself from safety back Xavier Woods for a 75-yard touchdown that tied the game.
When the Vikings retrieved the ball, Cousins threw the ball into the hands of Darnell Savage, but the Packers player juggled the object as it fell on the field. The interception was canceled.
Cousins then completed his next three passes for gains of 51 yards and Cook got a first rush down to set the table for Joseph’s field goal.
The Packers hadn’t allowed as many points to an opponent since their 38-3 loss to the New Orleans Saints in their opener.
The Green Bay roster had only allowed a total of 34 points in their last three outings. Preston Smith registered two sacks, but the Packers were unable to apply as much pressure as they wanted as Rashan Gary, Za’Darius Smith and Whitney Mercilus were sidelined.
