Dutchman Fabio Jakobsen wins the second stage in the sprint, Wout van Aert takes the yellow jersey

On the Great Belt bridge which overlooks the sea for 18 km, a great moment of sport was announced. But we had to be content with a purely visual spectacle, because the wind remained head-on, and the peloton did not break up into several edges. The second stage of this Tour 2022 finally concluded during a massive sprint. Fabio Jakobsen (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) got the better of Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma).

Two stages, and therefore already two successes for the Belgian team Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl, which did without Julian Alaphilippe and Mark Cavendish for this Tour, but which always knows how to win. The day after Yves Lampaert’s victory in the inaugural time trial, Fabio Jakobsen celebrates in the most beautiful way, at 25, his first participation in the Grande Boucle. The Dutchman is getting a nice revenge two years after being between life and death following his terrible crash in the Tour of Poland.

Dropped on the line, Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma), green jersey, consoles himself with a nice gift: his first yellow jersey. By finishing second, the Belgian gleaned six bonus seconds, which allowed him to dislodge Yves Lampaert from his throne. The latter did everything to defend his precious jersey after a fall at the entrance to the Great Belt bridge.

This bridge, on which runners were promised hell in the event of a side wind, was finally crossed by a smiling peloton. Apart from the falls caused by the apprehension of this delicate passage, no curb has occurred on the 18 kilometer long building. The first tricky stage of this Tour 2022 ends well for everyone.

In addition, the first polka dot jersey of this Tour de France 2022 rests on the shoulders of Magnus Cort Nielsen, the first rider to attack at the real start to form a breakaway. Passing the lead in the three difficulties of the day, the Dane celebrated this jersey as a victory, before climbing the podium all smiles. The green jersey remains on the shoulders of Wout van Aert, while Tadej Pogacar keeps the white jersey of the best young player.

Sunday, for the third stage of the Tour de France, the last in Denmark, the riders expect a tricky race, like Florian Senechal (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl), who fell in the final on Saturday. “It’s going to be tense again, there’s going to be sport. Today it was still going because the wind was in the face. I think it will be more tense on Sunday, we’ll discuss it with the team on the bus, but we will first celebrate Fabio’s victory”predicted the new champion of France.
