(Zandvoort) Despite a poor start, British driver Lando Norris of McLaren won the Dutch Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday, becoming the first driver to beat Max Verstappen in front of his home crowd and reducing his lead at the top of the drivers’ standings.
Norris started from pole position, but Verstappen got ahead of him before the first corner.
However, Norris had the better car and he eventually regained the lead on the 18th.e of 72 laps. He then cruised to a second career victory.
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc completed the podium, ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri.
Verstappen has not won in his last five races, his longest winless streak since 2020. He had won the first three races at Zandvoort since the Dutch Grand Prix returned to the F1 calendar in 2021.
Carlos Sainz Jr., of Ferrari, completed the top 5Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez took sixth.
Mercedes’ George Russell and Lewis Hamilton followed in seventh and eighth, with Alpine’s Pierre Gasly and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso picking up the final points available.
Quebec driver Lance Stroll of Aston Martin had to settle for 13the rank. He was given a five-second penalty for speeding in the pits.
