Duhaime in difficulty in Chauveau

The Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ) could elect deputies in Beauce or elsewhere without managing to bring its leader, Éric Duhaime, into Parliament, according to a new poll published on Friday.

Contrary to what many suspected, the Conservatives and the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) would not be neck and neck in the riding of Chauveau. The CAQ candidate, Sylvain Lévesque, would rather exceed Éric Duhaime by eight percentage points (43% versus 35%), according to a poll commissioned by Le Soleil and FM 93.

The sounding, produced by Segma Research, was carried out by telephone between September 26 and 28 with 510 respondents. Its margin of error is 4.3%.

Bonus at the ballot box?

Invited to comment on it on Friday, Éric Duhaime did not show an ounce of discouragement. “I have confidence, the Conservatives are potentially more discreet voters, we risk having a bonus at the ballot box and I am very optimistic and very confident,” he said. The Conservative leader is also counting on the fact that advance voting was very popular in Chauveau.

But on the ground, the Conservatives are stepping up their efforts. Mr. Duhaime decided to send a letter to all the residents of the riding and he appealed to his activists from other ridings to come and lend a hand to his volunteers in Chauveau.

On Thursday, another poll put the Conservatives ahead in the riding of Beauce-Nord. The Party could therefore have deputies elected without its leader becoming a deputy.

Asked about this possibility, Éric Duhaime did not want to project himself into such a scenario. “I have only one plan right now, and that is to spend the last 72 hours making sure that all citizens of Chauveau vote Conservative. »

Earlier in the campaign, he indicated he was here to stay and had made it his goal to devote ten years to the Conservative Party.
