Craftsmen fix wooden panels to replace the broken window of a Dublin store. Around, several brands have left the iron curtain down all day. Passers-by slow down to observe the damage then quickly leave, their eyes shifting. This is not the case for Patrick who decided to come with a sign. “They don’t represent us. The ‘they’ are the rioters. I have a lot of friends who are now afraid to go back to the city center. It’s important to express that a majority of the people of Dublin think It’s abominable.”he said.

The Irish capital is slowly recovering after a nightmare day. A man stabbed children and adults outside a school on Thursday. A few hours later, hundreds of rioters, mainly from the far right according to the authorities, attacked the police and destroyed windows, buses and a tram.

Cleaning services worked late into the evening of Friday, November 24, the day after the riots. There, they sprinkle water on the rails, at the place where a tram was set on fire. Here, road workers are restoring the roadway, which was also damaged by the fire. Francis looks at all this stunned. This Dublin student is angry at far-right thugs.

“This is not something my generation had ever seen here. We are people who pride ourselves on our hospitality, the warmth of our welcome.”

“It is deeply shocking and hypocritical at the same time. We are a traveling Nation, there are Irish people all over the world”believes this student.

“More police so it doesn’t happen again”

A few hundred meters higher, Lili places a rose next to four bouquets, at the foot of a primary school, where three children and an adult were attacked with a knife. “It’s not just about the riots, she explains. Let’s get back to what happened here! It is the most important. We need more police to prevent this from happening again. First, I think of the children, and it’s horrible”.

The police are there, in large numbers, as a show of force the day after this nightmare day where very violent scenes in the city center shocked the population.
