(Abbotsford) A man who was convicted of drunk driving 21 times may hold a Canadian record, according to police in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
The police department said officers were called to the scene of a motorcycle crash in August 2022, where they found a person who was a passenger on the motorcycle and being treated for serious injuries.
Police say the owner and driver of the motorcycle had a known history of impaired driving and attempted to flee before officers arrived.
They say an investigation led to the arrest of Roy Heide, 66, whose blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit at the time of the accident.
Police say Roy Heide pleaded guilty to several impaired driving offenses on December 18, receiving a total prison sentence of just under five years, and has now been convicted of impaired driving weakened 21 times.
Abbotsford police say this is the highest number of impaired driving convictions anyone has received in Canadian history, warning of the “devastating consequences of driving while impaired.” ‘intoxication for innocent road users’.
