(Drummondville) The official inauguration of the mural paying tribute to the painter and muralist Rita Letendre will take place this Thursday in Drummondville, her hometown, during an evening of multimedia projection including sound and light.
The event scheduled for 8:30 p.m. at Place Saint-Frédéric will take place in the presence of, among others, Jacques Letendre, son of Rita Letendre, as well as muralists from Project TYXNA.
The mural titled Echo pays tribute to Rita Letendre, a well-known figure in abstract art in Quebec. The muralists of Project TYXNA wanted to illustrate the richness of the work of Mme Letendre by bringing together a realistic black and white portrait of the artist which they integrate into the abstract and colorful environment typical of his work.
Rita Letendre was an Officer of the National Order of Quebec and an Officer of the Order of Canada. His works are featured in more than 20 museum institutions across Canada.
She lived in Toronto for more than 50 years, until her death in 2021. In particular, in 1978 she produced the work Joyan airbrushed stained glass window measuring 55 meters in length on the ceiling of the Glencairn subway station in downtown Toronto.
