In a short statement, Astana said it had “decided to suspend Miguel Angel Lopez from all team activity until the light is shed on this matter”.

Astana made the decision following an article by Spanish website Ciclo 21, which reported that Lopez was questioned in an investigation into the activities of a Spanish doctor accused of drug trafficking.

The 28-year-old Lopez has won a Tour de France stage in 2020, in addition to three Vuelta stages. He finished the 2018 Giro in third place and won the 2016 Tour of Switzerland and the 2019 Tour of Catalonia.
