A French drug trafficker has been arrested, but also freed thanks to a police detection dog.
On March 17, the authorities were carrying out an operation in Toulouse when their detection dog detected narcotics in a garage.
Thanks to the animal’s nose, 25.5 kg of cannabis resin were discovered.
The owner of the garage was identified and arrested a few days later: he is a 29-year-old repeat offender.
The latter appeared and his conviction seemed inevitable until his lawyer discovered that the police dog had obviously eaten some of the drugs seized.
This information nullified an important part of the evidence against the accused, who was therefore released.
However, the prosecution intends to appeal this decision.
