A body was recovered Thursday evening in the Saint-Charles river in Quebec, shortly after a child reported the fall of a person on a bicycle in the river.
The fall occurred shortly before 4:45 p.m., when a call was made to 9-1-1, according to what the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) reported on Thursday evening. According to daily information The sunthe cyclist would be a woman in her twenties.
A child would have witnessed the scene and would have gone to see an adult to alert him. This adult, a woman in her fifties, would then have jumped into the Saint-Charles River to rescue the person who had fallen into the water, in vain.
At around 8:10 p.m., the body of the wanted person was finally recovered after a major police deployment to try to locate him before it was too late. The police do not confirm for the moment that it is indeed the person who fell into the water, but few doubts remain given the sequence of events.
The file has been sent to the coroner’s office, which will have to try to determine the identity of the victim and authorize its disclosure.
No effort had been spared by the police to try to locate the missing person in the Saint-Charles River. Several SPVQ patrol officers, police officers on bicycles, investigators, the Canine Unit and the Forensic Identification Unit were deployed in the field.
The SPCIQ nautical squad, paramedics, the coast guard, divers and the Sûreté du Québec helicopter were also involved.
