The situation is difficult in the United Kingdom, Portugal and Germany.
It’s an exceptional heat wave that has been hitting all of Europe for several days. In the United Kingdom, the state of drought is declared on more than half of the territory. And water supplies are starting to run out. As proof: the source of the Thames, London’s historic river, has completely dried up. For several kilometres, the water gave way to a path of dry grass. And it’s not the only river to evaporate in the heat.
In Germany, the Rhine has reached a historically low level. As a result, part of the transport could be stopped in the coming days. Drought endangers Europe’s busiest river route. And this heat can have even more dramatic consequences: in Portugal, flames have been ravaging a natural park for almost a week. In Italy, it is the deluge, as in Calabria or Sicily, due to major storms.
