Nearly 650,000 jobs were created in 2021, according to INSEE. In many sectors, the workforce is lacking, this is the case for driving school instructors, where around 12,000 positions are to be filled in France.

moncef Abizid has been running a Parisian driving school for over thirty years. But at 67, he doesn’t even dare to think about retirement. He has been trying to recruit three instructors for three years, but nothing works. So to accommodate all the students, the 21 employees have to work more. The goal: avoid waiting times to pass the permit. Even an employee recruited for administrative tasks also gives driving lessons.

To find staff, the manager republishes job offers every month, without success. “Either they change professions along the way, or they find something better, but sincerely with the salary we offer and the working conditions we give them, we don’t understand what more needs to be done. “, laments the manager of the driving school. The positions are paid 2 400 euro rough per month, the salary increased last November. It is still insufficient to convince candidates.
