(Sorel) A driver possibly under the influence of drugs was involved in two road accidents, Tuesday, in Sorel-Tracy, in Montérégie, causing the death of a man.

Posted yesterday at 6:54 p.m.

The first impact occurred on the Marie-Victorin road around 9 a.m. A motorcyclist was reportedly rammed by a van before falling to the ground.

According to preliminary information from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the motorcyclist got up and managed to grab hold of the van, which continued on its way, turning on Béatrice Street. It was there that the motorcyclist was found, near a sign post, in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at the hospital within hours.

The man driving the van allegedly committed a hit-and-run. He drove to rue du Prince where he collided with a dump truck. The police were able to apprehend him there.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Police have requested a blood sample as they suspect the man may have been driving while impaired by one or more drugs. The results will be known over the next few days.

The driver will be met today by SQ agents to get his version of the facts. He could face charges of dangerous driving causing death and hit and run causing death.

Investigators specializing in accident scene reconstruction were dispatched to the scene. The investigation is still ongoing to determine the circumstances of the events.
