Drinking and driving | The PLQ accuses the Legault government of hiding an analysis

(Quebec) The official opposition demanded in vain on Tuesday that the Legault government make public an analysis on reducing the legal blood alcohol limit while driving from 0.08 to 0.05 mg/100 ml of blood.

It was coroner Yvon Garneau who asked in October 2021 the Ministry of Transport and the Automobile Insurance Company (SAAQ) to carry out a feasibility analysis on this potential tightening, demanded by groups and relatives of victims of drivers. drunk.

The Liberal Party (PLQ) made a request for access to information, but was unable to obtain the analysis in question, because it was “not the subject of a decision”, perhaps -we read in the response.

“The coroner asked for a study, the study is redacted, the bereaved families want to know the truth, the whole truth, what is in this study? » formulated the liberal MP Monsef Derraji.

The Minister of Transport, Geneviève Guilbault, who is responsible for the SAAQ, has not shown any openness either to making the analysis public or to lowering the alcohol-driving limit.

“In Quebec, we have one of the strongest systems in terms of severity against driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs,” she argued.
