(Paris) Belgian designer Dries Van Noten will leave the artistic direction of his label in June, the day after a final spring-summer 2025 men’s collection, he announced Tuesday in a press release.
The collections that will follow, including that of women’s spring-summer 2025, will be created by the team at his studio with whom he has worked for several years, the stylist said.
“When the time comes, the (name of the) designer who will continue the history of the house will be announced,” adds Dries Van Noten, who will be 66 in May.
Established in fashion since 1986 and unanimously respected in the microcosm without ever having become known to the general public, “DVN”, baptized “Daddy Dries” or the “Flemish master”, established himself for a specific talent: the mastery of construction of clothing, “tailoring”.
Coming from a family of tailors and a graduate of the Royal Academy of Art in Antwerp, Dries Van Noten has been showing at Paris Fashion Week since 1993. In 2018, the luxury group Puig took a majority stake in the label which also develops beauty products and perfumes.
“At the beginning of the 80s, as a young Antwerp resident, I dreamed of making my place in fashion. With all the people who supported me, this dream came true. Now I want to focus on all the things I never had time for. I am sad, but at the same time happy,” confides Dries Van Noten, specifying that he will however remain involved in the running of his label.
“I have been preparing this decision for a while and I feel that it is time to give way to a new generation of talents to bring their vision to the label,” confides the stylist.
At the end of February in Paris, Dries Van Noten stood out with a fall-winter 2024 women’s collection marked by a touch of colorful dreams, in pastels and loose silhouettes like nightwear and soft bags like teddy bears, all presented in a Parisian construction site.
Dries Van Noten is also one of the first to bring color back into the ready-to-wear that is supposed to be worn next winter: Barbie pink, still visibly in fashion, and anise green pastel always combined with dark , blue or black.
