THE Drew Barrymore Show will return to the air, but it will be without its writers.
According to The Hollywood Reporterthe three writers of the talk show hosted by Drew Barrymore have declined the offer to return to work on the show, which is scheduled to return to CBS on October 16.
A quick reminder of the facts: in mid-September, actress and host Drew Barrymore was at the center of a controversy after announcing the return to the screen of her talk show despite the ongoing strike in the television industry and the cinema. She therefore intended to shoot in the absence of her three striking screenwriters, members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA).
Target of virulent criticism, the star of AND had made an about-face two days later, now promising to wait until the end of the writers’ strike before broadcasting its first show.
As this strike ended on September 27, the production made an offer to the three writers of the talk show – Chelsea White, Cristina Kinon and Liz Koe –, present since the first season, in 2020. The trio, who had publicly protested upon the show’s initial return, declined the proposal. “Production is currently interviewing new writers and will comply with the guild,” writes The Hollywood Reporter.
Note that the actors’ strike, for its part, is still ongoing. Negotiations are continuing this week between the SAG-AFTRA union – which represents 160,000 actors, stuntmen, dancers and other professionals – and studio and platform bosses.
