The teams qualified for the next World Cup in Qatar will be fixed this Friday on their opponents in the group stage. Fifa conducts the draw from Doha, the capital to distribute the selections. A total of 32 teams will be divided into eight groups. For the moment, 29 countries have already qualified for the World Cup which will be held from November 21 to December 18. There are still three places to be filled in the intercontinental play-offs to be held in June.
Peru will face the winner of the United Arab Emirates-Australia match, New Zealand face Costa Rica. Finally, it will remain to be determined who of Wales, qualified for the final, and the winner of Scotland-Ukraine, match postponed due to the war, will win the last European ticket.
France, seeded thanks to their Fifa ranking (3rd), could inherit this opponent since UEFA and its 13 representatives is the only confederation whose teams can compete. Two teams from South America, the Concacaf zone, Asia or Africa cannot be in the same group.
32 teams divided into 8 groups
The 32 teams are divided into four hats of eight selections, according to their Fifa ranking, stopped Thursday, the day before the draw, with Qatar seeded in group A, privilege of the host country. After them, Brazil, Belgium, France, Argentina, England, Spain and Portugal are seeded.
In hat 2, we find other European countries (Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Croatia, Switzerland) as well as Uruguay, Mexico and the United States. The last three play-offs end up in hat 4, regardless of their Fifa ranking.
Each hat is successively emptied during the ceremony, starting with N.1 and ending with N.4. Each team is associated with a number, from 1 to 4, corresponding to its position in its group, a data which will determine the order of the meetings. The final calendar and the place of the meetings will nevertheless be formalized later by Fifa.
