Concern is high among real estate construction professionals. New home sales have plummeted, unheard of since the 2008 financial crisis.

For a few months, for a works manager from Ile-de-France, the activity has been idling. Last year, his company built just 65 houses, down from nearly 90 the year before. And 2023 does not look any better, the fault of the shortage of raw materials. “We have extremely long deadlines. Difficulties in brick, in tile, in wood, aluminum“, notes Alain Galland, works supervisor for Maisons Berval.

A housing shield demanded from the government

All French construction is concerned. The new home market slumped last year, with almost a third less sales. This is enough to worry the entire construction sector, including craftsmen. Because the forecasts for 2023 are not reassuring. Land prices have also exploded in recent months. Professionals are calling on the government for a housing shield to contain prices. A way according to them to support the sector by relaunching orders.
