Drama of Carantec. The murdered mother had left the family home

According to the first elements of the investigation, this drama seems to be part of the context of the separation of the couple. “The climate was very tense” and the young woman had gone to the police station following a slap without filing a complaint. The little girls were educated in Morlaix.

A man, his wife and their two daughters were found dead yesterday Sunday October 30 in their house in Carantec (Finistère). A drama that “seems to be part of a context of separation of the couple” according to the floor.

According to the first elements of the investigation, the couple together for 13 years had a very difficult separation. The climate was “wrought up” between them. The young 38-year-old mother had gone to the police station on October 19 to report tensions in her relationship. She had not wanted to file a complaint. It was a preventive approach wishing a amicable agreement for the separation (one and the other had already taken a lawyer).

Still according to the prosecution, on October 8 she received a slap from her husband following a discussion about their separation. On October 19, she left without her children to move in with her parents, fearing a reaction from her companion. “The gendarmes advised this mother to get in touch with the associations that support women who are in these situations”, further specifies Camille Mansioni, prosecutor at the Court of Brest. She had also been put in touch with a social worker.

Excerpt from the press conference of the Public Prosecutor of Brest Camille Mansioni. He returns to the context before the tragedy:

An investigation for intentional homicides has been entrusted to the gendarmerie, according to a press release from the Brest prosecutor’s office. None of the bodies bore any trace of an external wound or firearm.

Arrived on the spot shortly after 10 a.m. following a call from the mother of the young woman, worried about not hearing from her, the gendarmes first discovered the body of the father, aged 41, hanging on the ground floor. house floor. They then found the bodies of the two girls, aged 8 and 11, “each in her bed and in her room on the first floor”. The body of the mother of the family was to be found in the marital bedroom.

No trace of injury

The first findings “did not reveal any trace of external injury, nor of the use of a weapon on any of the bodies”notes the prosecution. “The house showed no apparent disorder. The drama seems to be part of a context of the couple’s separation”. An autopsy at the end of the week will have to determine the origin of the deaths of the mother and the two young girls, specifies the press release.

A dog, apparently belonging to the family, was also found dead. According to the daily Le Télégramme, the man worked in a marble factory in the region and his wife worked as a salesperson in a residence for seniors in Morlaix.

Their two daughters were also educated in Morlaix. The youngest attended primary school Notre-Dame-de-Lourde, in CE2 class and her older sister was in sixth grade at St. Augustine’s College, as her parents had been before. From this Monday morning, a listening unit has been set up in the two schools. In the town of Carantec, there was consternation this morning.

It affects everyone here. It’s two families that are impacted, neighbours, friends, work colleagues, it’s terrible.

A resident of Carantec

In front of the family house in Carantec, a bouquet of flowers, as a tribute, had been placed. The house, located on a small hill surrounded by fields, is a few hundred meters from the sea, not far from the Taurus Castle, one of the tourist attractions of the region. It is part of a small group of three or four houses dating from the 1970s, located a few kilometers from the town center of this seaside town of around 3,200 inhabitants year-round, in the bay of Morlaix.
