According to police sources, Sûreté du Québec (SQ) divers found the baby’s body in the Mille Îles River near the scene of the tragedy, Monday morning around 10:30 a.m.
On Friday evening, a 40-year-old mother dived into the Rivière des Mille Îles in her vehicle with her toddler and four-year-old daughter. The car ended up submerged in the stream in front of the LL Laval sur le Lac complex. The circumstances of the event are still unknown, but according to our information, it could be a voluntary gesture.
According to sources, the woman suffered from postpartum depression and attempted to take her own life with her children. She would have left the house on Friday morning, without giving any sign of life to her spouse, who would have contacted 911 at about the same time as the tragedy occurred. The day before, the mother would have informed him that she was not feeling well.
The Laval police, however, did not confirm or deny this information, stating that all hypotheses are open. However, it does not rule out the possibility that it is an intentional gesture. Investigators have not yet met the mother, who is still hospitalized.
Shortly after the tragedy, the mother and her little girl were rescued by first responders, while the baby was still missing. The girl was discharged from hospital with her family later that evening. A vast police operation took place last weekend to find the child.
