Drama in Laval | STL service could be disrupted

The tragedy that occurred in a daycare center in Sainte-Rose could cause trips to be slowed down in the coming days, the Société de transport de Laval (STL) warned on Wednesday, due to a “greater number of absences among staff.

“Some trips may have to be canceled due to more absences today. We thank you in advance for your understanding on this difficult day. At this time, few routes are affected, but we are monitoring the situation closely and will keep you informed as needed,” company spokesperson Estelle Lacroix said by email.

Two young children died and six others were injured on Wednesday morning after an STL bus driver ran into a daycare center in the Sainte-Rose district early in the day. In addition to collaborating “actively” in the police investigation still underway, the STL now says that it has made it a priority to “take care of its employees”.

Many psychosocial workers from the Employee and Family Assistance Program “are on their way to our head office,” continues Ms.me The cross. “This service is also available by telephone, like every day of the year, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and a reminder to this effect has been sent to all our employees,” she says.

“We are living through moments of untold sadness,” added the spokesperson, stressing however that the organization cannot comment further, out of respect for the work of the investigators and the police. “The large STL family is shaken by this tragic event and we stand in solidarity with those who are directly or indirectly affected by the events,” she nevertheless insists.

The company’s drivers’ union, affiliated with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), is also strongly affected, the case necessarily involving one of its members. “We are really upset. We will cooperate fully with the authorities for the investigation,” assured CUPE union representative Dominic Aubry on Wednesday.
